And just like that… it was my turn to hand over the book.
When I first shared the idea of gifting Oh, the Places You’ll Go with notes from teachers inside (you might remember the blog post 👉Oh The Places You’ll Go Graduation Gift . I never imagined how full my own heart would feel doing it for my own child.
Last week, I gave that same book to Lucas—filled with messages from the teachers and mentors who’ve helped shape him over the years. But this time, we added something even more special: notes from his grandparents, his aunt, and his godmother. A little extra love from the people who’ve walked alongside him since the beginning.
At first, he thought it was just the book. Then I told him to open it—and as soon as he saw the handwritten notes, his eyes widened. Mine filled with tears as he looked up at me and said, “How did you do this?”
I simply smiled and said, “I just asked.”
We’ve since spent time flipping through the pages, reflecting on the teachers who meant the most to him. Funny how so many of them shared the same consistent message—one of character, kindness, and quiet leadership. Proof that who you are matters more than what you do.
I know I’m a little late in posting this—the last couple of weeks have been a blur of graduation events and a beautiful celebration filled with love. But this moment deserved its own space. 💛🎓
To the parents still collecting these notes year after year—keep going. One day, you’ll hand it over too, and it will mean everything.
