No Gatekeeping Here!
(It’s funny, our kids use that term all the time, and I’ve found out over the years that it’s true with adults too.) People often “gatekeep” for a number of reasons, whether it’s their kids getting ahead or just the fear of sharing too much.
Those of you who have been following my posts know that it’s also time for college visits for the Urban Family. With our oldest being a rising senior, I had a little meltdown at the beginning of the summer as the reality set in and I felt overwhelmed with the college application process.
I headed straight to social media to seek help from the “veteran parents,” and a friend texted me (thanks, Nat!) a phone number that helped solve this problem. With age, I am learning that I don’t need to do everything myself. I’ve also learned that my time is better spent doing things I enjoy and that can make me money. Over the years, I have paid for tutors, sports lessons, camps, music lessons—knowing that it was an investment, and this was no different. That’s why I hired NEPA Career and College Counseling Jennifer Severini-Kresock, MS.
