If you’re anything like me, you’re probably nodding your head in agreement at the sheer madness of daily life. Is it possible to navigate life’s juggling act wearing so many hats? Business, appointments, parenting, schedules, sports, dinners, rides, partnership, social media, marketing, cleaning, cooking… the list seems endless, doesn’t it? Could we ever truly find balance amidst this whirlwind?
Today, while browsing the aisles of CVS, I stumbled upon a moment of ironic clarity staring back at me from the shelf – a pack of Always Balance Pads. It made me chuckle because, honestly, maybe that’s the only form of balance I’ll ever achieve!
People often ask me, “How do you do it all?” And truth be told, I don’t. It’s taken me years to realize that and even longer to implement it. Recently, on the latest episode of the Sole Sisters Podcast, my sister Tara and I delved into the elusive topic of balance. We joked about how the person who cracks the code to balance would be an instant millionaire.
Our discussion led us to a podcast I stumbled upon about the legendary romance novelist Nora Roberts. When asked about balancing work and family life, her response resonated deeply with me. She likened life’s responsibilities to balls – some delicate like glass, others resilient like plastic. Prioritizing means recognizing what matters most and being okay with setting some things aside. This article on How to Juggle Priorities was so eye opening.
As I navigate my own daily juggling act, I’ve adopted Nora’s analogy as a guiding principle. Sure, there are non-negotiables in both my personal and professional life, but it’s crucial to discern what can wait. It’s about finding harmony amidst the chaos, a concept I’ve come to cherish.
So, as I continue to wrestle with the daily struggle for balance, I cling to this idea of plastic balls and glass balls. It’s about perspective, about recognizing that it’s okay to let some things slide in order to focus on what truly matters. And amidst the chaos, I’m slowly finding my rhythm – one delicate balance at a time.
